DIY Prius Carbon Fiber Emblems – Awesome Carbon Fiber Emblems for Prius!

Carbon Fiber Emblems

Starting in 2010 Toyota began manufacturing the Prius with emblems that were supposed to look as if they were glowing.  These emblems seem to be a love or hate for most Toyota Prius owners. Many Prius owners probably leave them alone as they bought the car merely to save gas or to save the planet.  However, there is a niche of Toyota Prius enthusiasts out there who purchased the Toyota Prius for whatever reason and still have the itch to modify or customize their cars. (Myself included!)

One very popular upgrade for the 2010+ Toyota Prius Hatchback and Prius V Wagon is to eliminate the blue Toyota emblem and upgrade them with different colored backgrounds. Available on eBay are pre-cut vinyl wraps that adhere to the “blue heat” background that comes from the Toyota factory.  It adds a nice subtle and classy touch to your Toyota Prius.  This article will provide installation instructions for these vinyl wraps.

FRONT:

Background:  The front Toyota emblem and “blue heat” insert assembly are held in by 3 plastic “latches” on the chrome Toyota emblem.  To access… open the hood and there is a hole to the right of the hood latch.

  1. Reach through the open hood latch area to the back of the emblem area and push in at least two of the plastic latches holding the chrome emblem into its three mounting holes. It will easily pull right off, once you have released two of the latches.
  2. The blue/black plastic pulls right off the emblem. Clean the front and apply the carbon fiber film. Trim any excess with a razor blade or Exacto knife.  (Don’t be too concerned about the edges as the chrome Toyota emblem covers all edges)
  3. Snap the blue heat and carbon fiber assembly back into the emblem and clean.
  4. Insert the three mounting posts into the socket and push in – click-click-click. It’s in.

REAR:

Background:  Same as the front, the Toyota emblem and “blue heat” insert assembly are held in by 3 plastic “latches” on the chrome Toyota emblem.  This one is a little trickier to access since the back of the emblem is not readily accessible.

  1. Take a Plastic card (such as a Credit Card or AAA membership card) Gently work the card under the emblem toward the bottom right of the emblem. (Passenger side) (This is because the plastic clips holding it are near the top and it is easier to insert toward the bottom.)
  2. Then carefully slide the card around to the right side of the “T”. Once the card is positioned vertically along the right side of the “T” (even with hidden clip) firmly push the credit card left toward the “T” to release the clip while simultaneously pushing the badge in the same direction and gently prying up on the card.
  3. You will feel the badge clips release, gently remove the assembly.
  4. The blue/black plastic pulls right off the emblem. Clean the front and apply the carbon fiber film. Trim any excess with a razor blade or Exacto knife. .  (Don’t be too concerned about the edges as the chrome Toyota emblem covers all edges)
  5. Snap the blue heat and carbon fiber assembly back into the emblem and clean.
  6. Insert the three mounting posts into the socket and push in – click-click-click. It’s in.
